HWS technology guide
Over the summer of 2007, I worked with the rest of the Operations and Technical Support team to develop an introductory guide to IT Services at Hobart and William Smith Colleges that was distributed to all students during orientation. It provided a quick reference to how to contact IT help, what services are offered and where they are, and the most essential step-by-step guides for setting up computers new to campus. We also worked with a professional design firm to develop a new department branding (not pictured in this copy). The guide has been very well received and there are plans to develop a similar document for faculty and staff.
HWS TrackIT guidelines
Again building on recent experience at Hamilton, I took to updating the TrackIT guidelines and instructions for students and professional staff. This also gave me a good foundation in the new processes, which differed significantly enough from those I was used to.
HWS student handbook
Bringing my fresh experience developing some instructional materials at Hamilton, one of my first projects at HWS was to review and update the student worker guide in order to give the students the latest information more effectively than past editions.
HC student handbook
As a Multimedia Intern, I worked on giving the student staff's handbook a much-needed overhaul. The updates included new positions, contact information, duties, management, and technology resources.
HC lab resources guide
This guide provided a directory to the hardware and software available to Hamilton students, staff, and faculty, including what support and services were offered for each.
Macromedia Captivate Demonstrations (June 2005)
Captivate is a recording software specifically designed to create instructional materials. Here, I demonstrate some of its abilities along with a card that I created using Captivate and Photoshop layers before I had learned or had access to Macromedia Flash.
Ad-Aware and Spybot
Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy are two of the leading free anti-malware utilities. The demonstrations here are for installing the programs and then performing updates and scans. The inclusion of these materials is for two reasons:
- I believe in thorough, quality instruction
- I believe in good security practices with computing in general, but especially when using the potentially harmful resources of the Internet.
Lin's 64th
This birthday card was created for my uncle Lin's 64th birthday. It could have been created easily in Flash, but I used Captivate and Photoshop's layers because I didn't know anything about frames yet, and I think it came out pretty well, considering my noviceness.
