Honeymoon Day 2 – MGM Studios

Day 2

We started our second day by settling in to our room and then going for breakfast at the Riverside Mill, which was yummy. Then we set off to the Disney-MGM Studios. We started by walking around to see MGM sights and orient ourselves. Most of the day involved ducking in and out of every air-conditioned building available in order to escape the heat, which had a heat index of 110! Then we checked out the new Sounds Dangerous sound effects detective show with Drew Carer, which was fun. Next was the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, which was very cool, including several stunts, explanations, and a fair lot of humor. We did our best to jump up and down and act crazy...but alas, we weren’t chosen to participate in the stunts. Then we went in to see the Muppet Vision 3-D show, which, like Philharmagic, was great. It was funny (we both like the old men in the theater’s box seat) and sometimes startling (it is surprisingly hard to really remember that it is an effect). We moved on to take a trip through space on Star Tours, which was exciting and very realistic. Jess still isn’t convinced that we were just in a motion simulator! Then we took the Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour around props, costumes, and sets from MGM films. The most exciting part of this is a canyon full of fire that then dramatically floods. The most hilarious part of it was that our guide sounded either drunk or dying of heat stroke...complete with gasps for air and slurred words. Lastly, we watched the new Lights, Motor, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, which was very exciting, incredibly well-performed, and a must-see for anyone who enjoys action-driving. Andrew was quite impressive in his ability to answer every action movie question that showed while we were waiting, which kept Jess laughing the entire time.

For dinner, we went for a vintage homely experience at the 50’s Primetime Café. We had a lot of fun with the character server and the tasty food. Jess wasn’t such a fan of the root has (whatever that is) but the amazing apple cobbler dessert more than made up for it. Then we headed back to the hotel, relaxed a bit, and went for a nice swim in the pool until an approaching storm encouraged us to go back and get some rest in preparation for another big day.
