January, 2010

The holidays are done, we're both back at work and looking forward to what life will bring after Jess's last semester at school. Happy new year, everyone!

Andrew Lyons dressed wading in the water off Nassau, Bahamas

Just before Christmas, we took a long weekend trip to the Breezes resort on Nassau, Bahamas. We relaxed in the sun, on the sand, in hammocks, and (perhaps best of all) in the big hot tub. This was our first trip to the Bahamas, our first all-inclusive resort, and Jess's first time at the ocean, and it was great! There are, of course, new pictures up from the trip.

We also had a great time with friends and family at about a dozen different holiday parties and gatherings across New York and Connecticut.

November, 2009

The highlight of November was a lot of Christmas shopping overnight on Thanksgiving and Black Friday (well, mostly odds and ends, since Jess is good at planning and was nearly done). I got in a lot of walking and coffee and she was busy keeping work afloat from late evening on Thanksgiving to about sunrise the next day. It was a good time, but certainly tiring all around.

October, 2009

Andrew and Jessica Lyons dressed up as a Mac and a PC laptop for Halloween

We had a lot of excitement in October. We started off by breaking in the GPS that Jess bought me with an awesome overnight trip to Toronto for some sight-seeing at the way-too-tall CN Tower and the Nuit Blanche art festival where we saw many impressive, creative, and thought-provoking exhibits and displays between sun-down and sun-up the next morning (though we didn't make it much past 1am). We also had a blast at a Halloween party where we were a MacBook and a Lenovo T400 laptop (that's right, we're that cool).

The other fun (nerve-racking?) thing I did was present a paper and poster detailing our service catalog development project at the fall SIGUCCS conference in St. Louis. It was a few days of snacks, coffee, networking, learning, and sharing in the poshest (did I just make up a word?) hotel I am likely to ever be in.

August and September, 2009

We got very busy for a while with work, school, dinners, walks, ice cream, and who knows what else (end-of-summer fun?).

July, 2009

Andrew Lyons on the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the Washington Monument

We took a great drive to Washington, DC for a week. We stayed in the newly renovated (beautiful and modern) DuPont Hotel. My favorite part was a guided bike tour of the National Mall, which let us see and hear a lot about the different sights, memorials, and museums while keeping cool. We also really appreciated the bikes after we walked around to see most of the stops in more detail later. The Smithsonian museums were amazing, especially Air and Space (duh!), and the Holocaust Museum was really moving. The new World War II Memorial was powerful (as, of course, were the others, but it is the newest) We also enjoyed riding the DC Metro out to the Pentagon, Air Force Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetary. We capped off the trip with lunch at Red, Hot and Blue's barbecue (recently voted best BBQ in the country, and I agree!).

February through June, 2009

OK, so five months without any kind of update is kind of ridiculous. Here is the short version:

We replaced Jess's Taurus (apparently from rusting to where a good pothole would cause the engine and right brake assembly to drop five inches is a bad thing - go figure...), we started taking a spin (stationary cycling) class that is a lot harder than it sounds and is really good at whipping yours truly into shape, I finished getting my MCDST, we filled the holes at work, we took a trip to Connecticut, New york City, and to Samantha's graduation from Siena, Jess finished her semester at school and her practicum, we had some vacation with James and some friends on the water, we had great times at Beth and Greg's and at Meg and Tim's weddings. There was more too, but I have a horrid memory and would rather get the pictures up anyway. There are new Christmas 2008 pictures (finally); Spring 2009 Rochester, NY Lilac Festival pictures; trip to New Haven, New York City, and Siena graduation pictures; and trip to Lake George in June pictures. Enjoy!
